that the defender is ready to move to London
Arsenal have reopened talks with West Bromwich Albion over a move for ￡25m-rated Jonny Evans this month.
Both the Gunners and Manchester City wanted to sign the central defender in the last summer transfer window but failed to seal a move.
Arsenal initially feared they would miss out on Evans due to the defender's reluctance to move south.
But they have received encouragement that the Northern Irishman may now be willing to uproot to London.
It appears any move would for Evans would have to be sealed by Sunday after Baggies boss
Alan Pardew set a January 28 deadline for any sale to be completed.
Pardew wants time for the money to be spent on attacking players to bolster the club's fight to avoid Premier League relegation.
West Brom are 19th in the Premier League with 20 points from 24 games.
Yet Evans has a ￡3m release clause in his contract which can be activated if West Brom are relegated,
meaning that if Evans stays and Pardew cannot save his side from relegation, it could cost the club over ￡20m.
The 30-year-old Evans, who spent nine years at Manchester United, has played 22 times for West Brom so far this season, scoring two.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are continuing talks to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
They have increased their bid to ￡50.9m with Olivier Giroud ready to move in the opposite direction.
